Bistro KUROKAWA
A moment to unwind in the city.
Tucked into a quiet residential corner of Niiza, Bistro KUROKAWA serves comforting Western-style bistro fare, from rich Okukuji egg omurice topped with slow-braised beef tongue stew to carefully paced multi-course meals and house desserts.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Spoon into the braised beef tongue at Bistro KUROKAWA, and it yields without resistance, coated in a mellow, deeply savoury demi-glace. This stew crowns the bistro’s signature omurice made with rich Okukuji eggs, which draws diners from across the neighbourhood. The eggs are cooked until soft and velvety, folded around seasoned chicken rice so that every bite brings together comforting sweetness, fluffy curds, and the depth of the slow-simmered beef sauce.
Beyond the standalone omurice, the kitchen provides a generous spread of multi-course dinners and lunch sets for guests who want a more structured progression. An assorted appetizer plate may include delicate carpaccio alongside smooth liver pâté devoid of any gaminess, each small bite reflecting methodical prep work. Mains range across classic bistro staples, including lightly cooked fresh fish of the day, sirloin steak, and beef tongue braised in red wine, alongside seafood plates such as pasta coated in snow crab meat and rich crab tomalley cream sauce.
Dessert should not be overlooked before the meal concludes. The house dessert sampler arranges several selections—such as custardy pudding, seasonal tart, and light mousse—with restrained sweetness, rounding off the experience alongside a hot cup of coffee or tea.
Set in Niiza's Sakae residential quarter, the dining room is unpretentious and easygoing, arranged primarily around table seating. Lunch is often divided into two timed seatings, and both seating capacity and on-site complimentary parking are strictly limited, making advance reservations well worth arranging before you head out.
